Cellular Competition in Canada

by admin

Normally this isn’t the site for such things, but mobile and internet technology is incredibly important to the media industry, and for too long giant companies have had too much control over pricing by just buying out or destroying the competition. This is good for them, but bad in fostering all the other industries that rely on their services. This petition, put forth by Open Media (.ca) asks Canadians if they want to see more competition. Personally, I do. Much like the stop the meter campaign, this is about fair pricing – and stopping the gouging that has been going on for far too long.

Making of Useless Things

by admin

Useless Things, which will be premiering this Sunday (24th of July) at midnight on Canadian Reflections (CBC), was made a couple years before the HD DSLR revolution we are still living in. It’s possible that if we made it later, we would have shot on a 5D, or more likely a RED, but we were able to accomplish quite a bit with the HVX / Cinevate Brevis combo that is featured in the “making of” below. In fact, after a screening in Toronto (for the ReelWorld Film Festival) a Kodak rep asked if we shot on film, which to me was one of the best compliments we could have gotten.

I have my issues with HDSLRs, mostly because of the codec and compression, but the images you can get with them can definitely be spectacular.  I think the key is know your camera well, no matter what you might be shooting with.
